The 40th annual Anne Arundel County Fair will be held Sept. 16-20 at the fairgrounds on Route 178 in Crownsville.

Many events that have made the fair a success in the past are included in this year's festivities: tractor pulls, canine demonstrations, jousting demonstrations, draft horse pulling, pie-eating contests and selection of the Fair Queen. There will be a fireworks display at 9:45 p.m. Sept. 19.

Tickets are $4 for persons age 16 and older; $1 for children 6 to 15; and $2 for senior citizens and 4-H and FFA exhibitors.

On Sept. 16, students with school identification will be admitted free.

Sept. 17 will be "Senior Citizens, Disabled and Homemaker's Day," with free admission from noon to 4 p.m.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 18, preschool groups will be admitted free. (The fair must be contacted by the schools beforehand.)

The fair will be open 4 to 11 p.m., Sept 16; 1 to 11 p.m., Sept. 17-18; 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sept. 19; and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sept. 20.
