Joppatowne Mariners

September 13, 1992

Head coach: Pam Reich (12th season).

Assistant coaches: Mary Ann Farren, Karen Cfranick.

1991 record: 4-3-2, state Class 1A regional semifinalists.

Returnees: Seniors Crystal Carr (F), Christina Ballesteri (F), Patty Whitehead (M), Laurie Zaledonis (F), Shannon Perdue (D); juniors Jamie Vander Warka (G), Renee Cummings (D), Erin Leib (D), Binnie Nguyen (D).

Newcomers: Seniors Heather Davis (M), Debbie Lim (M); juniors Angela Kauzlarich (M), Krissy Poist (F), sophomore Jackie Bass (F); freshman Kim Reiter (D).

Coach's outlook: "Our returning defense should be our strength. They were all sophomores last year and we took our lumps. This year, they look very organized. They're very poised."

Harford Sun outlook: The Mariners appear to be on the road to recovery after last year's setback. Reich played a lot of youngsters last year just so they could get the experience, and it should pay off now. The Mariners return an all-veteran defense including Vander Warka. Offensively, they need someone to step up and take control, and they have several good candidates. Carr, Ballesteri and Whitehead all have the potential to be top scoring threats. The battle to get back in the county title race will be tough, but the Mariners should reach their primary goal of bettering last year's record.
