Fallston Cougars

September 13, 1992

Head coach: Alice Puckett (ninth season).

Assistant coaches: Vicki Wright, Stecy Proudfoot, Lisa Zahner.

1991 record: 11-2-1, Class 1A regional finalist.

Returnees: Seniors Jenny Haslbeck (F), Jenny Clark (D), Kara Jackson (F), Erin VonFelden (D), Laura Kortisses (D); juniors Pam Gauss (F), Susan Mackley (F), Daina Burton (M).

Newcomers: Juniors Amy Bauersfeld (D), Kate Bauman (F), Jen Drabo (D), Meredith Howell (D), Christy Pardew (M), Judy Simon (M), Jody Wax (M), Jenny Smith (G), Angela Chlumsky (F); sophomores Stacey French (M), Kathleen Turk (D), Lauren Grabowski (M), Julie Haire (D).

Coach's outlook: "I'm looking for the seniors on defense to pull together and help the younger kids mature faster. The key is how long they need to learn to play together. They don't talk, and you have to have communication to be good in field hockey."

Harford Sun outlook: Last year, the Cougars had to rebuild their offense; this year, the defense needs work. Almost everyone graduated, including All-Metro goalie Tammy Kloiber. Smith is skilled but lacks experience and confidence in her attempt to replace Kloiber. The Cougars may struggle more than they're used to, but with no ringer out there, they should be back in the battle for the county title.
