C.M. Wright Mustangs

September 13, 1992

...TC Head coach: Maria Wehage (first season).

Assistant coaches: Margaret McGinty.

1990 record: 11-4, state Class 3A semifinalists.

Returnees: Seniors Julie Jakum (M), Julie Bernard (D), Laura Rice (F), Kerri Gough (F), Stacie Sawyer (D), Jessie Prochaska (D), Jennifer Rader (D).

Newcomers: Senior Amy Gould (G); juniors Laurie Brock (F), Jennifer Cann (F), Anne Dellinger (F), Amanda Frazer (F), Amy Hypes (D), Bridget Kelly (D), Carrie Longo (D), Kelly Lufburrow (F), Krissi Plevyak (F), Diana Rice (F); sophomores Janine DeBellis (G), Courtney Gartrell (D), Shannon Terry (D).

Coach's outlook: "I'm starting out with a clean slate. This is a pretty young team, and I haven't put pressure on them [to return to the state playoffs]."

Harford Sun outlook: In her first high school coaching position, Wehage is cautious about her predictions. She is impressed with the dedication of her players, but isn't sure how they'll stack up against the competition. The Mustangs reached the state playoffs for the first time last fall. Now they have some rebuilding to do after losing 11 seniors. Wehage has a wealth of talent in veteran midfielder Jakum, probably the top individual player in the county, but there's not much experience around her. The youngsters have a lot of promise, but they may be a year away from making another run at a postseason title.
