Centennial Eagles 1992 Howard field hockey at a glance

September 13, 1992

Coach: Gail Purcell, 16th season

1991 record: 8-6

Returnees: Seniors Jenny Yoo (L), Amber Saunders (F), Keri Chichester (D), Susan Wallace (D), Monica Torrado (F), Jenny Golub (D), Lisa Stichler (GK), Caroline Kendrick (F), Maggie Muench (D); Junior Katrina Wolfe (L).

Newcomers to watch: Juniors Erin Marchisa (SW), Chantal Loomis (F), Abbey Forbes (F); Sophomore Emily Ward (F).

Coach's outlook: "I'm much more excited about the season than I was on the first day of practice. It's a very cohesive group, a thinking team. They have the potential to be a great team. The question is our mental edge. The season depends on how hard the team is driven. This team is very hungry."

Howard County Sun outlook: The Eagles return five starters from a team that went to the regional finals, but they lost two superb defenders to graduation in sweeper Laure Kaylor and goalie Meghan Carr. Stichler steps into the cage, while Marchisa is getting rave reviews from Purcell at sweeper. Kendrick and Saunders lead the offense. With their speed and skills, the Eagles should rebound from last year's mediocre performance and contend for the county title again.
