Lazo is appointed cardiac therapist

The North Anne Arundel Hospital Professional Center has named Susan Ann Lazo of Bowie cardiac therapist for her work in the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program.

Ms. Lazo's responsibilities include designing and implementing individualized exercise prescriptions for patients in the Professional Center's Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program.

She will also monitor the patients' blood pressure, heart rates and electrocardiograph readings during the exercise session.

Ms. Lazo was previously employed as a cardiographic technician at the George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., for four years.

3 area students join SSU program

Three county residents participated in Salisbury State University's Freshman in the Wilderness program.

The students are Kate E. Spinner, 18, of Crownsville; Adam Cizek, 18, of Riva; and Judy Asplund, 18, of Millersville.

The wilderness trip is an alternative to the orientation session, which new students are required to attend.

Students in the wilderness program may choose between programs that offer cycling in Maine or canoeing in the back country lakes of Ontario, Canada.

The three students selected the canoeing trip.

Ms. Spinner is the daughter of Bernard and Paula Spinner and a graduate of Old Mill High School.

Mr. Cizek, the son of Joan and Arthur Cizek, is a graduate of South River High School.

Ms. Asplund, the daughter of Walter and Mary Asplund, is a graduate of Old Mill High School.

Davis named manager of library branch

Gloria J. Davis has been named manager of the Maryland City branch of the county public library.

Ms. Davis, who assumed her new duties on July 13, is responsible for all branch operations, including public service, staff supervision, collection management and building maintenance.

She was a librarian at the Crofton branch.

Ms. Davis received a bachelor's degree in community studies from the University of Maryland in 1986 and a master's degree in library science from Catholic University in 1989.

The Hyattsville resident is a member of the Maryland Library Association and serves as co-chairwoman of the reference discussion group for the MLA's public services division.

She also is a member of the Public Library Association and the American Library Association.
