Pasadena man dies in highway accident

A 21-year-old Pasadena man was killed yesterday in an early morning accident, county police reported.

Police said Michael William Mettle, 20, of the 1000 block of Fitz Court in Pasadena, was driving a 1985 Nissan 300ZX east on Duvall Highway near Queenspark Road at 1:04 a.m. when he lost control of the car. The car spun sideways before slamming into a tree.

A passenger, Michael Francis Hardy of the 200 block of Meadow Road, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car, police said.

Mr. Hardy was taken to North Arundel Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:05 a.m. Mr. Mettle was in serious but stable condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Police are continuing their investigation, and charges are pending against Mr. Mettle.

Man, 23, charged with carrying gun

A 23-year-old Prince George's County man was arrested in Annapolis on a handgun charge after police said they chased him into woods behind a public housing complex.

Police were called to Bowman Court to investigate the report of a man selling drugs and carrying a handgun. When police arrived at about 4:30 p.m., they chased the suspect into the woods and reported seeing him toss a .38-caliber handgun behind a tree, police said.

Byron A. Rolle, of the 4300 block of Vermillion Avenue, Oxon Hill, was charged with carrying a handgun.

* Millersville: 600 block of Old Mill Road: Sept. 6, entry gained through the door. Bicycles taken. Total loss: $538.
