Two men are killed in separate shootings

September 09, 1992

City police today were investigating two separate homicides last night, one in Irvington, the other in West Baltimore.

At 12:30 a.m., Southwestern District police responding to gunshots in the 4000 block of Massachusetts Ave. found a man with a bullet wound to the chest.

Moments before, the victim was seen fighting with another man, investigators said.

Christopher Johnson, 22, with no known address, was pronounced dead a short time later at the Maryland Shock-Trauma Center.

At 10:25 p.m., the body of an unidentified man, about 20 years old, who had been shot once in the back, was found on the front steps of a house in the 700 block of N. Carey Street.

He was pronounced dead by an ambulance crew. A number of other shots had been fired in the same area, although only one hit the victim, known as "Juice," police said.

Police said robbery was ruled out as a motive because the man was still wearing a watch and several pieces of gold jewelry.

Police said they knew of no motive in either case.
