Rally to salute midshipmen

September 09, 1992

Annapolis city officials are getting ready to don their blue and gold for a giant pep rally Thursday to salute the midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy.

The rally at City Dock will kick off "Midshipmen Appreciation Days," three days designated by Annapolis Mayor Alfred A. Hopkins to recognize the efforts of the midshipmen.

Last spring, engineering students at the Naval Academy helped build a series of trails and bridges in a citywide park system that is under construction.

Other midshipmen volunteer with city agencies and help children improve their reading, math and science skills.

City residents are invited to join the midshipmen, staff and faculty at the pep rally starting at 7 p.m. Thursday to cheer the Navy football team on to a successful year.
