SYKESVILLE — Ex-employee sought after disturbance

A former employee of a local restaurant is being sought on an arrest warrant in connection with a disturbance there Sunday afternoon, state police said.

Police said Mark Byron Brown, 27, of 5700 Strawbridge Terrace in Eldersburg, was charged in the alleged assault and robbery at Morty's Restaurant in the 6200 block of Sykesville Road.

Witnesses told investigators that Mr. Brown returned to the restaurant shortly after 1 p.m., after he was fired earlier, to demand payment for the hours he had worked, police said.

After being told to leave the restaurant, Mr. Brown allegedly assaulted an employee and took about $375 from the cash register.

Employee Richard Paul Beadin, 29, chased Mr. Brown as he ran out the back door, but was hit in the head outside the restaurant, police said.

Mr. Brown fled north, police said.

@4 Trooper David Johnson is investigating the case.
