Atlanta Braves -- Agreed to a $1.6 million, two-year deal with SS Rafael Belliard, who could have been eligible for free agency after the season.

California Angels -- Purchased the contract of P Hilly Hathaway from Double-A Midland.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Purchased the contract of OF Dave Clark from Triple-A Buffalo.

Colleges

Arizona State -- Dropped F Jamal Faulkner from the basketball team after his arrest for allegedly slapping his former girlfriend who last week testified on his behalf in court. Faulkner was the Pacific-10 Conference Freshman of the Year in 1990-91.

Football

Dallas Cowboys -- Agreed to contract terms with starting C Mark Stepnoski.

Denver Broncos -- Waived LB John Sullins. Activated WR Cedric Tillman from the developmental squad.

New Orleans Saints -- Put TE John Tice (Maryland) on IR with a pulled shoulder muscle. Activated CB Toi Cook and WR Eric Martin from the exempt lists.

New York Giants -- Activated LB Carl Banks and NT Erik Howard. Placed LB Corey Widmer and NT George Rooks on IR.

Hockey

Minnesota North Stars -- Agreed to terms with LW Gaetan Duchesne (8 goals, 15 assists) on a multi-year contract.

St. Louis Blues -- Signed LW Vitali Karamnov and negotiated his release from Dynamo Moscow.
