Liberty Lions 1992 VOLLEYBALL OUTLOOK

September 06, 1992

Head coach: Helen Derwin (eighth season).

Assistant coach: John Ziomek.

1990 record: 13-2.

Top returnees: Seniors Chrissy Primavera, Carrie Myers, Laura Veise; junior Cailin Lawlor.

Top newcomers: Juniors Dawn Kennick, Amy McCready.

Coach's outlook: "I like the idea of not having a dominant player. Teams won't have any one person they can key on, and we will have more players involved, with different ones stepping up at different times."

Carroll County Sun outlook: The Lions are coming off a dream season in which they reached the state tournament, but they've lost some valuable height and experience. Six players are back from last year's varsity team, and Derwin has called up five more from last year's 10-5 JV team. There will be no single "go to" player this year, as was the case last year with graduated hitter Kelly Foreman. Seniors Chrissy Primavera, Carrie Myers and Laura Veise will try to pick up the slack, with junior Cailin Lawlor also playing a major role. Derwin believes she has a solid nucleus with some young players ready to emerge. Don't expect the kind of year the Lions enjoyed last year, but this team will be very competitive.
