South Carroll Cavaliers 1992 FIELD HOCKEY OUTLOOK

September 06, 1992

Head coach: Stacy Stem, third year.

Assistant coach: Ruth Lampert.

1991 record: 15-1.

Top Returnees: Seniors Patti Duffy (L), Kim Post (F), Natalie Walker (D), Kristen Kinter (B); Junior Tracie DiDio (F).

Top Newcomers: Senior Hilary Griffith (Defender); Juniors Katrina Crew (GK), Holly Fitzgerald (Link).

Coach's outlook: "We should have a really good defense with Natalie Walker and goalkeeper Katrina Crew leading the way. Patti Duffy, who made All-Central Maryland last year, is strong, has good stickwork and loves to compete. We lost five starters, including our top two scorers, but we have two good scorers back in Tracie DiDio and Kim Post. We need two more scorers. Our skill level is not that good, but we play together and win together. I always try to motivate the girls to a top mental level."

Carroll County Sun outlook: Stacy Stem has been an instant hit at South Carroll, coaching the Cavaliers to a 24-3-3 record in her first two years and winning the state 3A title last year with a 1-0 win over a strong Bethesda Chevy Chase team that had not allowed a goal all season until the loss to South Carroll. Stem and South Carroll have to be considered strong contenders to repeat as 3A champs this year.
