Westminster Owls 1992 FIELD HOCKEY OUTLOOK

September 06, 1992

Head coach: Co-coaches Sue Hooper (21st season) and Brenda Baker (13th season).

Assistant coach: none.

1991 record: 15-1.

Top returnees: Seniors Tinah Houck (L), Nicole Batten (F), Denise Bollinger (HB), Aurora Brown (F).

Top newcomers: Seniors Anita Naganna (Line), Laurie Moody (Sweeper), Jill Sisson (Forward); junior Sandi McBeth (Defender).

Coaches' outlook: "We lost leadership in six senior players from last year's team, including four-year starter Cindy Dieterly and three-year starter Judie Marcus. We basically have a new defense, and we're a little slower than last year. But the players feel they can repeat [the Owls won the State 4A championship last year]. We have a long way to go."

Carroll County Sun outlook: The Owls enter this season as they did most seasons, expecting to win the state championship at the top 4A level. Among the players returning from last year's title team is senior forward Nicole Batten, who scored the goal in the 1-0 state championship game win over Severna Park. With veteran coaches Sue Hooper and Brenda Baker calling the shots, there is always a chance to go all the way to a state title.
