Liberty Lions 1992 FIELD HOCKEY OUTLOOK

September 06, 1992

Head coach: Courtney Vaughn, sixth year.

Assistant coach: Gigi Jones.

1991 record: 9-4-1.

Returnees: Seniors Heather Thompson (MF), Carly Carter (A), Shelly Reichl (A), Melissa Meehan (D), Laura Pagels (A), Lori Hagood (D), Holly Bilenski (G), Katie Varakin (M), Stephanie Dustin (D).

Top Newcomers: Sophomores Amy North (For), Debbie Bourke (For), Kerry Stoffel (Def).

Coach's outlook: "We have a small squad, but the players work well together. Many of them did well on the JV level. We're starting to come together. We'll be depending on Carly Carter and Shelly Reichl to handle most of our scoring. They are two seniors who were moved up to the varsity as sophomores and have a lot of experience. We lost our leading scorer, Lisa Yealdhall, who had nine of our 17 goals last year, and eight other players. Our girls are quiet, but they have a strong desire to do well. We're young and will take it game-by-game."

Carroll County Sun outlook: The Lions got the most out of 17 goals last season, advancing to the state 2A regional finals before losing to Middletown, 1-0. Liberty may not have the talent of a Westminster or a South Carroll, but the Lions always seem to find a way to compete for a state championship.
