N. Carroll Panthers 1992 FIELD HOCKEY OUTLOOK

September 06, 1992

Head coach: Denean Powelson, first year.

Assistant coach: Laura Morrisroe.

1991 record: 3-9.

Top returnees: Seniors Emily Fair (S), Tristan Corbi (MF); junior Laura Burkhouse (MF); sophomore Jill Ballard (MF).

Top newcomers: Juniors Amy Heffner (F), Holly Saravalle (GK); sophomores Amber Bosley (MF), Laurie Kreseski (F).

Coach's outlook: "We're working hard, and we've made a lot of improvement. We lost nine players from last year, but we have some very aggressive players and good speed this year. I'm in a real good position as a first-year coach because the players seem to be practicing well for me. We'll be competitive. But how good we'll be will depend on how the new players develop. I'm still debating on what system we'll run. We'll be flexible, whatever we do."

Carroll County Sun outlook: The North Carroll field hockey program has gone downhill since the mid-1980s, when its current coach, Denean Powelson, played for the Panthers and lost only two games in three years. Powelson said the Panthers have been losing good athletes to girls soccer, which is popular in area rec programs. But look for Powelson to bring the Panthers back to compete for state 2A titles.
