St. Mary's Saints

August 30, 1992

Head coach: Brad Best (fourth season).

Assistant coaches: Mike Codd, O.T. Campbell, Hank Gareis, Dave Lombardi, Vince DePasquale and Tony Paglario.

1991 record: 7-3.

Returnees: Seniors Ed Zelzin (OG), Joe Greenlee (OT-DT), Mark Zeller (FB-ILB), Dwen Lim (OG), Mike Martelli (DE), Tim O'Neil (SE), Steve Schummer (QB) and Jaques Keller (OT); juniors Joe Keenan (FB-ILB), Greg Carobrese (DT), Matt Clune (WB-CB), Ryan Hughes (WB-CB), Mark Kiefer (SE-PK), Jim Brown (SE-FS) and Mike Greenlee (SE).

Newcomers: Juniors Marty Johnson (FS) and Justin Kiernan (OT); sophomores Mike Pagliero (RB)-DB) and Jason Lilly (FS).

Coach's outlook: "As far as I'm concerned, Severn and St. Paul's are always the team to beat in the MSA C Conference. I don't like to set goals as far as winning and losing because you never know what can happen during the course of a season. What I do know is that I have a group of kids that will never quit, no matter what happens."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: For the first time in Best's tenure, St. Mary's doesn't boast a proven running back. Thus, the Saints are going to need a total team effort each week to stay competitive. Best is relying on his defense to keep his team in the C Conference race, but his rather inexperienced offense must grow up in a hurry if the Saints are to be successful.
