Chesapeake Cougars

August 30, 1992

Head coach: Tom Kraning (fifth season).

Assistant coaches: Jim Simms, Paul Tolle, Bernie Williams and Chip Snyder.

1991 record: 1-9.

Returnees: Seniors Brandon Steinheim (HB), Brian Pitzer (FB), Howard Oden (C), Rich Welsh (QB), John Coomes (LB-OG), Mark Downey (LB) and Howard Parker (SE-S); juniors Keith Weaver (HB), David Jennings (FB-DE), Matt Rush (LB) and Marcus Smith (DT).

Newcomers: Seniors Jason Green (OT-DT) and Mark Shafer (DE); juniors Larry Barath (LB), Jeff Everhart (OG), Brian Doyle (S), Chris Hite (DE) and Bobby Grokas (NG); sophomore Neil Huber (OT).

Coach's outlook: "I'm real anxious to get a few scrimmages behind me. We're in a situation where we're ready to head in a positive direction. I think we may surprise some people."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: The Cougars have been through two tough seasons with a few close losses, but are a relatively new team with only 10 players returning from last season. Look for halfback Brandon Steinheim to do a little more receiving to increase his versatility on offense. The Cougars lack depth in the tackle position and early-season injuries could prove to be problematic.
