Broadneck Bruins

August 30, 1992

Head coach: Jeff Herrick (fourth season).

Assistant coaches: Ken Kazmarek, Pat Kostkowski, Bruce Villwock and Duane Elsey.

1991 record: 5-5.

Returnees: Seniors Chuck Eaton (RB), Bob Weatherly (WR-DB), Matt Konrad (LB), Todd Bramble (C-LB), Mike McLaughlin (OL) and Jason Haull (CB); junior Steve DePaul (DL).

Newcomers: Senior Alan Hartman (QB); juniors Sean Ryan (QB) and Mike Dabbs (QB); sophomores Jason Smith (WR), Anthony Arnone (OT-DT) and John McGinnis (OT-DT).

Coach's outlook: "We could be better than last year because we have five skilled people on defense returning. We've got the biggest line [averaging 231 pounds per man] we've ever had, and yes, it's the best. We will throw the ball more than last year."

Anne Arundel County Sun outlook: Herrick's uncharacteristic, enthusiastic optimism could be an indication that the Bruins may have their first ever winning season in Class 4A. Broadneck looks to be the county's most improved team in '92 and possibly a threat for the playoffs. Despite having nearly 100 players in the program, varsity and JV, Herrick says his biggest challenge is "developing a second team" both ways. If the Bruins do come up with that kind of depth, there is no question they will be in the hunt.
