Oakland Mills Scorpions 1992 Howard County footaball at a glance

August 30, 1992

Coach: Ken Klock, 12th year

1991 record: 7-4

Returnees: Seniors Justin Wethington (G/LB), Wade McHargue (T/DE), Matt Silver (RB/DB), Steve Coley (G/DT), Derrick Brooks (RB), Eric Goodwin (C/NG), Geoff Henderson (G/DT), Adam Seidman (QB).

Newcomers to watch: Senior Rick Alvarado (RB); Josh Daft (RB/LB), Damian Smith (RB), Jake Daft (RB/LB), Chad Fekel (QB).

Coach's outlook: "We've got 26 seniors, and about 10 of them have never played before. We've got a lot of good, young athletes, but they are so green. This is probably our lightest year in terms of experience. We might end up throwing a pass every 20 plays or so. If we can go 2-1 out-of-county, that would be good, because I think we'll do all right in the county."

Howard County Sun outlook: It looks like an unusual season for the Scorpions, because they aren't loaded. Wethington might be the best player in the county, and the Scorpions will need a great season from him. McHargue is also a player to watch, especially as a pass rusher. The Scorpions' inexperience, particularly at quarterback, will also hurt them during another tough September schedule. But look for them to rebound behind a solid line and finish strong. They always do.
