Wright Mustangs 1992 High school football preview

C. M.

August 30, 1992

Head coach: Steve Harward (seventh season).

Assistant coaches: Dick Fordyce, Jerry Lee, Jack Nichols, Mark Jacovitte.

1991 record: 10-1, county champs, State Class 3A quarterfinalists.

Returnees: Seniors Chris Gill (TB-DB), Jesse Sostrin (SE-CB), Matt Jenkins (TE-DE), Jarrett Francis (G-DT) and Ron Paden (OT-DT). Juniors Brad Fordyce (QB), Scott Davies (SE-DE), Jason Tharpe (FB-LB), Mike Sprouse (OT, DT), Don Behler (G/DT) and Roddy Hutchinson (C).

Newcomers: Juniors Eric McEvoy (RB-DB) and Jeff Judy (DB). Sophomore Eric Juergensen (FB).

Coach's outlook: "There's a lot of talent there, but it's young. The defense is going to have to get the job done early until the offense gels."

Harford County Sun outlook: While five veterans return to the defense, Harward has only one starter, tailback Gill, back on offense. Fordyce, Sostrin and McEvoy also should provide fireworks on offense, but the big question will be the offensive line. The Mustangs have more size than last year with tackles Sprouse (6-6, 260) and Paden (6-0, 260), but the entire line is unproven. Still, the Mustangs' level of experience is higher than anyone else's in the county. Look for the Mustangs to come out on top again.
