Atlanta Braves -- Announced that their game against the PTC Montreal Expos that was rained out Thursday has been rescheduled for next Thursday in Atlanta. The game will start at 5:10 p.m.

Oakland Athletics -- Recalled OF Eric Fox. Optioned P Bruce Walton (0-0, 9.90 ERA) to Triple-A Tacoma.

San Francisco Giants -- Recalled OF Steve Hosey from Triple-A Phoenix.

Seattle Mariners -- Extended the contract of Roger Jongewaard, VP of scouting and player development, through the 1995 season.

Basketball

Atlanta Hawks -- Named Gary Wortman assistant coach and director of scouting.

Charlotte Hornets -- Signed G Muggsy Bogues, a Dunbar graduate, to a multiyear contract. Bogues was fourth in the league with 9.1 assists per game, and eighth in steals at 2.07. He was second in assists-to-turnover ratio at 4.76 after leading the league in that category in each of the previous three seasons.

Minnesota Timberwolves -- Agreed to terms with G Chris Smith, selected 34th overall in the draft from Connecticut, on a multiyear contract.

Mississippi Coast Sharks (GBA) -- Signed C David Robinson.

Colleges

Iowa -- Announced that junior basketball F Demetria Bright will transfer to Cincinnati.

Kentucky -- Signed football coach Bill Curry, a former Baltimore Colt, to a five-year contract through the 1996 season. The contract is effective immediately and runs through Jan. 31, 1997. His former contract, which he signed in 1990, ran through Jan. 31, 1995. Curry, who will turn 50 on Oct. 21, is entering his third season at Kentucky. He has a 7-15 record. His overall record is 64-68-4.

Penn State -- Announced that WR Bobby Engram and WR Ricky Sayles, who have been charged with burglary, theft and receiving stolen property, will not play this season.

Football

NFL -- Announced that the New England Patriots-Miami Dolphins game scheduled for Sept. 6 in Miami has been rescheduled for Oct. 18 because of continuing cleanup efforts in the wake of Hurricane Andrew. Both teams were originally off the weekend of Oct. 18, a Sunday. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. at Joe Robbie Stadium, which will serve as a Red Cross fund-raising collection point during the team's home games.

Cleveland Browns -- Acquired C Jay Hilgenberg from the Chicago Bears for a conditional 1993 draft choice. Signed WR Bruce Hill, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' MVP in 1988. Claimed DB Wayne Haddix off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Los Angeles Raiders -- Released WR Stacey Simmons. Activated LB Winston Moss.

New York Jets -- Waived former Baltimore Colts PK Raul Allegre.

Pittsburgh Steelers -- Activated SS Carnell Lake. Waived WR Darrin Chandler.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Activated G Tom McHale (Maryland) and DT Reuben Davis from the commissioner's exemption list. Waived G John Hunter.

Toronto Argonauts (CFL) -- Signed QB Blair Kiel, who started four games for the Green Bay Packers last season.

Hockey

Hartford Whalers -- Traded RW Bobby Holik (21 goals, 24 assists), a 1993 second-round draft choice and a conditional 1994 draft choice to the New Jersey Devils for G Sean Burke (a holdout last season who played for the San Diego Gulls) and D Eric Weinrich (7, 25).

Track and field

The Athletics Congress -- Suspended University of Washington hurdler Bernard Ellison for four years for failing to appear for an out-of-competition drug test.
