SUSPICIOUS FIRE: Eastern District -- A fire that appeared to have been set caused extensive damage early today to the second floor of a rowhouse in the 400 block of N. Bradford St. The fire, which police said may have been arson, broke out in a second-floor room around 4 a.m. and spread into a hallway before firefighters extinguished it. Whether the house was occupied was not immediately known.

ROBBERY: Central District -- A woman was robbed of her purse and other belongings by a man who came up behind her while she walked near her home in the 800 block of St. Paul St. about 8 p.m. yesterday.

ROBBERY: Central District -- An Edgewood, Harford County, man was robbed of nearly $150 about 8:30 p.m. yesterday by two men, one with a pistol, who stopped him in the 600 block of N. Paca St.

THEFT: Central District -- Someone broke into a Jessup woman's parked car in the 200 block of W. Lombard St. last night and took property worth about $200.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A resident of the 300 block of N. Carey St. reported someone broke into her home Tuesday by forcing a rear door and stole a 13-inch color TV valued at more than $300.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A gunman robbed two women, both residents of the 2100 block of Walbrook Ave., of jewelry valued at more than $500 while they were in the 1900 block of W. North Ave. late Tuesday.

ASSAULT/ARREST: Western District -- Police arrested a 28-year-old woman and charged her with assaulting her 12-year-old son with a rope. The woman, Amelia Branch, of the 2200 block of Riggs Ave., was arrested Tuesday and charged with child abuse and aggravated assault. Police said the woman was arrested after the boy left his house Tuesday and showed his playmates several red marks and lacerations on his back. The boy, police said, told his friends his mother beat him with a rope. After receiving treatment at the University of Maryland Medical Center, the child was placed into the custody of an uncle.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A purse containing $50 was stolen from a house in the 200 block of N. Calhoun St. after someone broke in early yesterday by forcing a side window.

THEFT: Western District -- A resident of the 1000 block of N. Appleton St. reported that someone broke into his home through a side window yesterday and stole property valued at more than $2,000.

BURGLARY: Western District -- Someone broke into a house in the 2700 block of Parkwood Ave. by forcing a rear window early yesterday and stole several pieces of jewelry, 10 silver dollars, a TV and a radio valued at nearly $300.

ARREST: Western District -- A resident of the 5000 block of Ready Ave. reported he was in the 1600 block of W. North Ave. yesterday evening when he was stopped by a man with a handgun who robbed him of his watch and ring valued at nearly $60.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A VCR, stereo equipment and a cable TV remote control device valued at $800 were stolen from a home in the 2300 block of Druid Hill Ave. yesterday after someone broke in through a rear door.

THEFT: Northwestern District -- A resident of the 3900 block of Penhurst Ave. reported that someone, possibly a man she knows, stole furniture valued at nearly $500 from her home last week.

BURGLARY: Northwestern District -- Property valued at nearly $300 was stolen from a home in the 4200 block of Norfolk Ave. yesterday after entry was gained through a rear door.

THEFT: Northwestern District -- Someone stole two lawn mowers valued at $300 from the back yard of a house in the 4500 block of Pimlico Road between Aug. 21 and yesterday.

THEFT: Northwestern District -- A lawn mower valued at nearly $250 was stolen yesterday afternoon from the rear yard of a house in the 6900 block of Fieldcrest Ave.

THEFT: Northwestern District -- A bike valued at nearly $140 was stolen from the front porch of a house in the 3800 block of Chatham Road between Tuesday night and yesterday morning.

BURGLARY: Northwestern District -- Appliances valued at nearly were stolen from a home in the 3700 block of Overview Ave. yesterday after someone broke in through a second-floor window.

BURGLARY: Northwestern District -- A resident of the 6300 block of Park Heights Ave. reported that someone entered her apartment while she was away between Aug. 19 and Aug. 26 and stole several hundred dollars from a bedroom dresser drawer. Entry was apparently made with a key.

ROBBERY/ARREST: Southern District -- A resident of the 2500 block of W. Patapsco Ave. reported she was walking near her home yesterday evening when a female grabbed her purse. A suspect was arrested later and was being questioned at the Central police district.

ROBBERY: Southern District -- A South Baltimore man who was walking in the 600 block of Light St. shortly before 10 p.m. yesterday was robbed of nearly $150 by two men who struck him in the face.
