Gen. Clyde D. Eddleman, a former vice chief of staff of the Army, died of respiratory failure Aug. 19 at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington. He was 90 and lived in Arlington, Va. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1924, he retired as vice chief of staff in 1962, his career having combined combat and high- level administrative experience with military-school experience.

Dr. James A. Batts Jr., 78, of Philadelphia, professor emeritus at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and a former director of obstetrics and gynecology at Harlem Hospital, died from cancer Aug. 22 at the college's medical center in Philadelphia.

Lillian Libman, an 80-year-old manager, press agent and personal representative for many leading instrumentalists, opera singers and dancers, died of lung cancer Aug. 24 at her sister's home in Larchmont, N.Y.
