GOING BACK TO SCHOOL

August 26, 1992

Here is the 1992-1993 academic year public school calendar:

* Sept. 1-3 -- Pre-school professional days for teachers

* Sept. 8 -- Schools open; first day for students

* Sept. 25 -- Schools closed for students; professional day for teachers

* Nov. 3 -- Schools, offices closed; general election day

* Nov. 6 -- Schools closed for pupils; professional day for teachers

* Nov. 26-27 -- Schools closed for students and staff; Thanksgiving holiday

OC * Nov. 30 -- Schools closed for students; parent conference day

for all teachers

* Dec. 1 -- Schools closed for students; parent conference day for kindergarten teachers, one-half professional day/one-half conference day for elementary (1-5) and middle school teachers; professional day for high school, special area and resource teachers

* Dec. 23 -- Last day before winter holiday, two-hour early dismissal

L * Dec. 24-Jan. 3 -- Schools closed for students and teachers

* Jan. 4 -- Schools reopen

* Jan. 18 -- Schools, offices closed for Dr. Martin Luther King holiday

* Jan. 29 -- Schools closed for students; professional day for teachers

* Feb. 15 -- Schools, offices closed for Presidents' Day holiday

* March 12 -- Schools closed for students, professional day for teachers; Middle school teachers will attend the Maryland Middle School Association Spring Conference

* April 9-12 -- Schools, offices closed; spring holiday

* May 31 -- Schools, offices closed; Memorial Day holiday

* June 18 -- Last day for students and teachers; two-hour early dismissal for students; full duty day for teachers

GRADUATION DAYS -- June 18, Westminster; June 19, Francis Scott Key and South Carroll; June 20, Liberty and North Carroll. ++ The Career and Technology Center will have its certificate ceremony June 10.

NOTES: All duty days or scheduled two-hour early dismissal days when students are not in school will be used for professional meetings, in-service activities or work days.

If any of the three days built into the calendar for emergency closings are not used, they shall be deducted from the June closing date.

If additional days are needed to compensate for emergency closings, they shall be added to the June closing date.
