ASSAULT/ARREST: Southern District -- Police arrested a 31-year-old man last night and charged him with stabbing two men he said were breaking into his van. Police said after Robert Rottman, of the 900 block of Washington Boulevard, approached two men outside his van around 7 p.m., a fight in which both men were stabbed broke out. Taken to the Maryland Shock-Trauma Center and treated for a stab wound of the stomach was Victor Nolan, 34, of the 1800 block of Shirley Ave. in Joppatowne, Harford County. Also taken to Shock Trauma and treated for a stab wound to the chest was Kenneth Keesler, 34, of the 1700 block of Forest Park Ave. Both were admitted in good condition. Police said charges against the two injured men were pending. Mr. Rottman was charged with two counts of assault by stabbing and was being held pending a bail hearing.

ROBBERY: Southeastern District -- Two men assaulted a 78-year-old resident and ransacked her home in the 200 block of N. Ellwood Ave. The woman was in her back yard around 8:30 p.m. when two men jumped over the fence and approached her. The woman, police said, attempted to get back into her house but was caught by the men who shoved her inside and hit her. What, if any, property was taken was unknown. The woman was released from Church Hospital after treatment for injuries.

SHOOTING: Northeastern District -- Two men were shot last night in an alley off the 500 block of E. 23rd St. The victims, Jerome Willingham, 22, of the 2400 block of Barclay St., and Mark Bryant, 24, of the 2200 block of Greenmount Ave., were in the alley around 9:30 p.m. when someone fired a gun, hitting both men. Police said Mr. Willingham was admitted to Johns Hopkins Hospital for a gunshot wound in the left chest. Mr. Bryant was admitted to the Maryland Shock-Trauma Center for treatment of a gunshot wound to the left leg.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A resident of the 2300 block of Madison Ave. reported she was walking in the 1000 block of W. North Ave. early yesterday morning when a man pressed a hard object into her back and stole a pager from her.

BURGLARY: Western District -- Someone broke into a house in the 1000 block of McKean Ave. between Aug. 17 and the weekend and stole a VCR and a 19-inch TV valued at $400.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A resident of the 8600 block of Lucerne Road in Randallstown, Baltimore County, was robbed of more than $200 by a gunman about noon yesterday as he was walked in the 2400 block of Arunah Ave.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Two men, one armed with a handgun, robbed a resident of the first block of Cedar Heights Lane of $300, a pager, watch and ring about 11 a.m. yesterday while he was in the 600 block of N. Dukeland St.

THEFT: Western District -- Someone stole a compact disc player and other household items valued at $1,000 from a house in the 2500 block of Mosher St. yesterday afternoon.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Two men, one armed with a handgun, robbed Wells' Lounge in the 1300 block of Bloomingdale Road of an undisclosed amount of money shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday.

BURGLARY/ARREST: Southwestern District -- Police responding to a burglary in the 300 block of Gelston Drive arrested a teen-ager who had broken in through a side window. Police said nothing was taken. The boy was turned over the juvenile authorities.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Employees of L&J food store in the 3000 block of Arunah Ave. reported that someone broke into the business over the weekend and stole property valued at more than $1,000.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Someone broke through a back door to the Black Hat bar in the 400 block of S. Caton Ave. over the weekend and stole several pieces of property.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 2800 block of Oakley Ave. reported that someone broke into his home over the weekend by forcing the front door and stole property valued at more than $1,000.

SHOOTING: Northern District -- A 26-year-old man who lives in the 800 block of Chauncey Ave., Reservoir Hill, was shot in the lower back about 2 a.m. yesterday as he fled from two men who stopped him in the 3000 block of Greenmount Ave. and demanded a gold chain he was wearing. He was treated at Union Memorial Hospital and released.

THEFT: Northern District -- A resident of the 1300 block of W. 41st St. told police that someone broke a window to her 1989 Chevrolet while the vehicle was parked in the 400 block of Edgehill Ave. over the weekend and stole a stereo radio and $500 in cash.

THEFT: Northern District -- An AM-FM radio and a carpet cleaner valued at more than $400 was stolen from a 1985 Volkswagen parked in the 3100 block of Huntington Ave. over the weekend.

THEFT: Northern District -- Someone broke through a window into a 1987 Ford van parked in the 2600 block of Guilford Ave. over the weekend and stole several antique toys, at least two cameras and a radar detector, all valued at more than $4,000.
