Lyon recognized as expert on lasers

Terry L. Lyon joined the ranks of the U.S. Army Environmental Hygiene Agency master consultants in a recent ceremony at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

Master consultants are AEHA employees recognized within the Army, the nation and, in some cases, internationally, as outstanding experts and professionals.

A physicist in the Laser Microwave Division since 1973, Mr. Lyon serves as the Army expert for industrial sources involving optical radiation, including furnaces, and electric and laser cutting and welding systems.

Mr. Lyon is a member and former chairman of the Defense Department's Laser Systems Safety Working Group, which provides uniform laser system safety and range control measures for all U.S. military services. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American National Standards Institute Committee for the Safe Use of Lasers, the Optical Society of America, and The American Institute of Physics. He was the first recipient of AEHA's Joseph Lovell Award for Professional Excellence in 1980.

Mr. Lyon and his wife, Kathryn, reside in Edgewood with their three daughters.

Mitchell elected to MNC board

Frederick O. Mitchell 2nd was elected to the board of directors of MNC Financial Inc. He will continue to serve as chairman of the Harford County Advisory Board of Maryland National Bank.

A resident of Perryman, Mr. Mitchell is managing partner of F. O. Mitchell & Brother, a Harford County farming operation. He is the former chairman of the board and president of F. O. Mitchell & Brother Inc.

He serves as chairman of the board of Upper Chesapeake Health Systems, is a director of Fallston General Hospital and Harford Memorial Hospital and is a member of the Maryland Hospital Association's Executive Council and the Rotary Club of Aberdeen.
