Panel to study school-building

August 23, 1992

OCEAN CITY -- Former Montgomery County Executive Sidney Kramer was appointed yesterday to head a statewide task force that will examine school construction needs for the next decade.

Others to be named to the task force include legislators, citizens, representatives from local school systems and state and county officials.

Gov. William Donald Schaefer said the state's student population, which was 720,000 last year, could grow to 855,000 by 2001.

The task force will review requests from the 24 major jurisdictions; review state and local funding of school construction; ensure that school construction plans comply with state growth-control goals; and determine if materials needed to teach math, science and technology-related courses are available.
