4-year-old boy drowns while fishing

August 17, 1992

A 4-year-old Hyattsville boy died last night at the Anne Arundel Medical Center several hours after he was pulled from the Chesapeake Bay by divers.

Debra Smith, a hospital coordinator, said Cordarro Douglas Miller died at 10:20 p.m., apparently from drowning.

County police said the boy had been fishing early yesterday evening with his father, a sibling and three friends in the bay at the end of Magnolia Avenue in the Arundel on the Bay community when his father noticed he was missing.

County police were notified at 6:09 p.m. and divers responded to the scene. More than an hour later, the boy was recovered from the water not far from where his father was fishing.

It was not known how long the boy was under water.

While being transported to the hospital in an ambulance, he was placed on life-support systems that were maintained until his death.

Police said the drowning was accidental.
