There will be lots of new faces coaching high school varsity sports throughout the county in the coming school year.
Thirteen new varsity coaches were approved at the monthly Carroll County Board of Education meeting Wednesday.
Three coaching positions have yet to be filled, and Westminster still is seeking a replacement for Athletic Director Jeff Oeming.
Here's a look at the new coaches and the positions which still need to be filled.
* Francis Scott Key: Mindi Wagner replaces longtime mentor Marie Wilson as field hockey coach this fall.
Wagner, the daughter of North Carroll wrestling coach Dick Bauerlein, was a field hockey and track standout at Westminster High and Messiah College. She's a second-year physical education teacher at Robert Moton Elementary School in Westminster.
Wilson steps down after 21 years at the helm. She guided the Eagles to five state championships.
Francis Scott Key is still in search of a boys track and field coach to replace John Seaman next spring.
* Liberty: While the big news in Eldersburg is the addition of the golf program, five varsity coaching spots also were filled Wednesday.
The two new fall coaches are cross country coach Dan Jones and girls soccer coach Lynn Stone.
Jones, a Liberty graduate, assisted Brad Hill for the past three seasons. He's a supervisor at Public Opinion Research.
Hill completed his 10th year as the school's cross country coach last fall. He will teach in the Anne Arundel County school system this year.
Stone, a native of Balboa, Panama, is in her third year at Liberty as a biology, physical science and photography teacher.
A 1988 Western Maryland College graduate, Stone played a major role in forming a varsity women's soccer team at Western Maryland and was the team's captain in its inaugural campaign her senior year.
Stone replaces Dave Price, who steps down after three years, a 9-2-2 season in 1990.
Jeff Hash is the school's new wrestling coach this winter, taking over for Ed Singer.
Hash is a physical education teacher at Piney Ridge ElementarySchool. He previously taught at West Middle and Carrolltowne Elementary.
The 1984 Slippery Rock (Pa.) University graduate assisted Singer last season as the Lions finished with a 7-6 record.
Singer coached at Liberty for four years and was the first to coach the team for more than one season.
Mike Quealy and Dan Irwin will replace Hill as the track and field coaches next spring.
* North Carroll: Troy Warehime, a North Carroll graduate, replaces Pete Litchka as varsity boys basketball coach.
Warehime played under Litchka for four seasons at North Carroll and was a two-time All-County and All-Monocacy Valley Athletic League forward.
He earned a scholarship at Davis & Elkins College, where he graduated in 1987, and has served as Litchka's junior varsity coach for the past four years.
Warehime also will be in his first year as physical education teacher at North Carroll Middle School after teaching at Elmer Wolfe Elementary School in Union Bridge.
Randy Clark will add baseball to his coaching repertoire next spring. Clark, who's been the Panthers' head football coach for four years, replaces Craig Walker on the diamond.
Walker coached Panthers baseball for four years. In 1991 he ledthe team to a 10-8 season after going winless the season before.
Denean Powelson replaces Stacy Abeles as the school's field hockey coach this fall.
Abeles was at the post for five seasons and will remain as the Panthers girls lacrosse coach in the spring.
* South Carroll: Gene Brown replaces the legendary Ken Parker as head football coach.
Parker was the school's only head coach before he stepped down last year after 25 years at the helm.
Brown was been an assistant under Parker for the past 13 years and has enjoyed great success as head coach of the school's boys lacrosse team for 14 years.
Allen Skierski will be the new girls basketball coach, succeeding Ruth Lampert. He's been a math teacher at South Carroll for many years and has had previous head-coaching experience at High Point High School in Prince George's County.
Lampert, at the post for 19 seasons, went into last year as the only active Carroll County basketball coach -- boys or girls -- to win a state championship.
Rob Pennington is a new track coach. A physical education teacher at Winfield Elementary, he assisted with the cross country and track program at South Carroll last year and was a tennis coach at Francis Scott Key in 1991.
South Carroll is still looking for a second head track coach.
* Westminster: Dale Fogelsanger was named the new girls cross country coach.
Jim Gilford, who coached both the boys and girls programs, now will focus on the boys team.
Fogelsanger, a Messiah College graduate who teaches science at Westminster, completed his second year as girls varsity track and field coach last spring.
