Ex-Terp Suplee hired as S. River aide

Former University of Maryland lineman Mitch Suplee was hired yesterday as an assistant football coach at South River High in Anne Arundel County, said school athletic director Jim Haluck.

Suplee, a second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference center last fall, will split a contract with another assistant, Chuck Golch, and work part time.

After failing to be drafted by an NFL team this spring, Suplee played for the Albany Firebirds of the Arena Football League. He has applied for a substitute teaching job at South Riv

Suplee was Anne Arundel County's Player of the Year as a senior at South River in 1986. He played four years at Maryland and served as a captain last fall.

Suplee is in Albany and will arrive in Edgewater tomorrow, Haluck said.
