Man is fatally stabbed on the street

August 13, 1992

A man tentatively identified as a 32-year-old Pigtown-area resident was stabbed to death last night near his home, where he collapsed on a street in front of neighborhood residents, Baltimore police say.

The victim was bleeding badly from at least one stab wound in the center of his chest when he was seen in the 800 block of W. Lombard St. shortly before 8:30 p.m., said homicide Detective William Cole.

A man seen walking away from where the victim fell to the pavement was being sought as a suspect in the case, the detective said.

Detective Cole said the victim staggered a short distance before he fell on the street near the sidewalk. Neighbors called police, and the man was taken by ambulance to the Maryland Shock-Trauma Center, where he died a short time later without regaining consciousness.

The detective said investigators had a tentative identification of the victim, but his name was being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Police said they have no motive for the slaying.
