Schools To Change Phone Numbers

August 13, 1992

To save money and improve telephone service, the phone exchange of the county school system's central office and 80 schools has been changed to that of the county government.

The last four digits of the school system's central office numbers will remain the same, but the three-digit exchange will change from 224 to 222.

Eighty of the county's 107 elementary, middle and special schools will have new phone numbers with the 222 exchange. Telephone numbers at the high schools will remain the same, however. School officials said replacing those numbers would not be cost-effective.

The school system expects to save 10 cents per local call by making the change, and calls between Baltimore and the county will no longer be long distance.

Principals will notify parents through school newsletters if their school number is being changed.
