Suspect is sought in drug store robbery

A man stole an undisclosed sum of money from an Ellicott City drug store last week after telling the manager he had a gun.

The man had bought a pack of cigarettes Thursday night and was smoking one in the Rite Aid store at the 8400 block of U.S. 40 when the manager approached him and asked him to extinguish it, police said.

The man told the manager he had a gun and followed him to the office, where he forced the manager to open a safe.

Police reported no injuries and said the man fled the store and ran toward U.S. 40.

Police describe the man as a 5-foot-7-inch black male in his 20s, wearing a red baseball hat and a red T-shirt. He weighed about 140 pounds.

Police arrest man in shooting incident

A 22-year-old Columbia man has been arrested for allegedly firing a gun in a Columbia apartment parking lot almost two weeks ago.

Damon Lamont Brooks of the 6300 block of Scarlet Petal was charged last week with assault, reckless endangerment, destruction of property and two handgun violations.

He is being held at the county detention center on $100,000 bond. An arrest warrant for another man involved in the July 30 incident has been issued, police said.

Mr. Brooks was arguing with a woman at the Stevens Forest Apartment Complex at the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road when a man came out and started yelling at him, police said. Mr. Brooks was driving away in his red Pontiac Fiero when the man fired at him, according to charging documents.

Mr. Brooks is accused of returning fire, shattering two car windows and almost hitting a woman sitting inside a nearby Mazda 626. Mr. Brooks and the second suspect had been involved in a fistfight the night before, according to charging documents.

Two men arrested in store robbery

Two men -- one of them an employee -- were arrested by police last week in connection with the July armed robbery of a Columbia convenience store.

Armistead Duvon Myers, 18, of the 10300 block of Nightmist Court in Columbia was charged with robbery, theft and a handgun violation.

His alleged accomplice, store clerk Samuel Edward Bradford, 19, of the 5900 block of Cedar Fern Court in Columbia was charged with robbery, theft, and accessory to robbery with a deadly weapon.

Police said Mr. Bradford gave inconsistent statements when they interviewed him just after the robbery and later at the police station. Police also said they received an anonymous tip after the robbery.

The two men and another person are accused of conspiring to rob the store and split the money. More than $500 was stolen from the cash register and a safe, according to charging documents.

A man went into the store and pointed the gun at another clerk, who was forced to open a safe and lie on the ground. Although the man did not order Mr. Bradford to do anything, Mr. Bradford scooped money from the safe and handed it to him, according to charging documents.

Both Mr. Myers and Mr. Bradford are being held at the county detention center on $100,000 bond.
