Social Services chief Marshall hurt in Utah auto accident

August 12, 1992

County Social Services Director Samuel W. Marshall was injured and his cousin killed in a car crash in Utah early Sunday morning, Utah state police reported.

Mr. Marshall and Carl Dodson of Beltsville were traveling west on Interstate 70 at 6:53 a.m. when their car crossed the median into the eastbound lane and rolled down an embankment, police said.

Mr. Dodson, 50, was thrown from the passenger side of the car and killed, police said. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Mr. Marshall was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., about 100 miles away. A nurse there said Mr. Marshall was "sore and badly bruised."

Police said Mr. Marshall apparently fell asleep at the wheel. He was wearing a seat belt.

Friends said the two men were on their way to California when the accident occurred.
