Kudos

Loryn S. Lesser received the 1992 American Association for Counseling and Development Government Relations Award. Dr. Lesser is supervisor of career development and employment for the Jewish Vocational Service.

Carla Frank Design, a Baltimore-based graphic design firm, recently won design awards from the Society of Publication Designers, the Art Directors' Club of Metropolitan Washington, Print magazine and Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. The awards were for the Nov.-Dec. 1991 cover of Overture, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra magazine, and the winter and summer 1991 covers of Loyola Magazine, the alumni magazine of the Loyola College of Maryland.

Public service

Sal P. Ercolano Jr. was named to the Finance and Audit and Financial Development Committees for the American Lung Association of Maryland. Mr. Ercolano is a manager in the Baltimore office of Clifton, Gunderson & Co., an accounting, tax and business consulting firm in Towson.

Signet Bank in Baltimore donated $3,000 to Baltimore Goodwill Industries.

Columbia Courier, a delivery service, was opened in Columbia at 8325 Guilford Road in the Rivers Industrial Park by Bob and Shirley Brown, who owned a similar service in Washington before moving to Columbia.

Mitchell & Associates Advertising and Public Relations in Bethesda and Owings Mills was hired to produce a marketing campaign for Metzman & Associates, an insurance brokerage firm in Rockville.

BB&Y, a public relations and advertising firm in Baltimore, is doing marketing and public relations work for C.W. Amos & Co., a regional accounting and business consulting firm.

Freed and Associates, an advertising agency in Baltimore, is representing Delano Distributing Inc., a Cockeysville-based marketing division of Delano Studios, Bluffton, S.C.-based manufacturers of ceramic commemoratives.

Trade organizations

Maryland Mortgage Bankers Association elected E. Philip Brady Jr. president. Mr. Brady is a senior vice president of Latimer & Buck, a subsidiary of Legg Mason Inc.

American Institute of Graphic Arts, Washington chapter, elected Jill Tanenbaum to the board of directors. Ms. Tanenbaum is owner of Jill Tanenbaum Graphic Design Inc. and the Bare Bones Division.

Consulting Engineers Council of Metropolitan Washington named the following officers: president, Robert Waitkus of Woodward-Clyde Consultants; president-elect, S.G. Papadopoulos of PKP Engineers; vice president, Ronald Wolfman of Wolfman & Associates; and secretary/treasurer, Ken West of Bethesda Engineers and Surveyors Inc.

Maryland Bar Association named Alan Richard "Rick" Sachs chair of the Section of Business Law. Mr. Sachs is a partner in the Baltimore-based law firm of Gordon, Feinblatt, Rothman, Hoffberger & Hollander.

American Institute of Professional Geologists presented the Martin Van Couvering Memorial Award to Kenneth N. Weaver for his service to the organization. Mr. Weaver is a state geologist and director of the Maryland Geological Survey.
