Kendig wins award

Deborah D. Kendig, chairwoman of the Howard County Board of Education, has been named a recipient of the Charles W. Willis Memorial Award for outstanding school board service by the Maryland Association of Boards of Education.

Now serving her 10th year with the county school board, Mrs. Kendig will receive her award Sept. 17 during the MABE conference in Annapolis.

Are you immunized?

The Howard County Public School System is reminding students that they must meet state immunization requirements by giving school principals a completed Maryland Immunization Certificate.

Children enrolling in Maryland's public schools for the first time are also required to have a physical exam no later than six months after entering school. Physicals given within the past nine months are acceptable.

Physical examination forms are available at county schools.
