LAUREL -- Red Ice rushed out the gate, opened an eighth-length lead down the backstretch and held off a late challenge by P. J. Floral to win the featured Tough To Touch Purse at Laurel Race Course yesterday.

Ridden by Greg Hutton, Red Ice, a 3-year-old Icecapade filly trained by Sandra Stancer, covered the 1 1/8 miles on the turf in 1 minute, 48 1/5 seconds for her fourth career win and second of the year.

Also at Laurel, jockey Santos Chevez rode a pair of winners to bring his victory total for the meeting to 17. He was aboard Buckingham Bash ($6.40) in the third and Min Mint ($5.80) in the seventh.

Mike Luzzi leads the Laurel jockey race with 35 winners.
