Man killed in crash asleep at the wheel

A 20-year-old Maryland City man was killed yesterday morning when he fell asleep while driving near his home.

Joseph Gordon Ensley, of the 3300 block Sudlersville South, was pronounced dead at North Arundel Hospital two hours after the 3 a.m. accident.

Police said Mr. Ensley was driving a Mazda RX-7 east on Brock Bridge Road near Suburban Airport when he fell asleep and lost control of the car, which hit a tree.

Police said Mr. Ensley was not wearing his seat belt.

Chicago salesman robbed, then beaten

A Chicago man selling magazines door-to-door in Odenton was assaulted and robbed Wednesday night by two men.

Michael Alan Santucci, 19, was punched in the mouth and suffered a cut. He was treated at the scene. Two suspects were still being sought yesterday.

Police said Mr. Santucci was at the corner of Odenton and Oakton roads about 8:45 a.m. when two men asked him for a match. One of the men then punched Mr. Santucci and demanded money.

Police are looking for the suspects who stole $35 and drove off in a two-door red hatchback.

South County man arrested for drugs

A 22-year-old South County man was arrested on drucharges in Annapolis after an off-duty city police officer allegedly saw him smoke crack cocaine while driving down Forest Drive, police said.

The officer was driving home at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when he noticed the driver smoking from a beer can at Forest Drive near Robinwood Road, police said. He called on-duty officers, who arrested the suspect.

Troy Roland, of Tracy's Lane, near Deale, was charged with possessing cocaine and drug paraphernalia after police searched his car and found a rock of crack and a makeshift pipe,

police said.

* Laurel: 500 block of Brockbridge Road, Aug. 1. Entry gained through storage shed at Suburban Airport. Items taken: Flood light, power cord and drill. Total loss: $110.

* Curtis Bay: 8100 block of Fort

Smallwood Road, Aug. 4. Entry gained through front door of liquor store. Total loss: $1,387.
