A Mass of Christian burial for John C. Gleason Sr., who had administered health programs for both the young and the elderly and been active in neighborhood preservation and restoration, was being offered today at Mount Calvary Episcopal Church, Eutaw Street and Madison Avenue.
Mr. Gleason, who was 73, died Monday of heart failure at his
Charlesgate apartment in Towson.
Known as Jack, he retired in 1986 as director of health services at the Waxter Center, a post he held since the senior center opened in 1974. From 1967, when he first came to Baltimore until taking the Waxter post, he had served as administrator of the Community Pediatric Center at University Hospital.
From the mid-1950s until he came here, he had been administrative assistant to the managing director of what is now the American Lung Association.
