Thomas J. Holmes

A Mass of Christian burial for Thomas J. Holmes, who had owned homebuilding and construction businesses, was being offered today at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Roman Catholic Church, 8499 Virginia Ave. in Riviera Beach.

Mr. Holmes, 85, of Mountain Road in Lake Shore, died Monday of complications of cancer at North Arundel Hospital.

He retired about 12 years ago as owner of the Holmes Construction Co., which he operated for about 10 years. Before that, he had been the owner of Domestic Engineers Inc., a plumbing business he started in the mid-1950s.

A native of Baltimore, he was a graduate of St. Ann's School and City College and also studied at the old Maryland Institute on Market Place.

Survivors include his wife, the former Julia R. Schatzsneider; a daughter, Beverly C. Wilkins of High Point; three sons, Charles R. Holmes, Francis A. Holmes and Thomas J. Holmes Jr., all of Lake Shore; a brother, Hugh K. Holmes of Lake Shore; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family suggested memorial contributions could be made to the North Arundel Hospital.
