Luzzi rides Encaustic to Laurel victory

LAUREL -- Encaustic, ridden by Mike Luzzi, overtook Appritiontofollow approaching the wire to score a half-length victory in the featured Helioscope Purse yesterday at Laurel Race Course.

Encaustic covered the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1 minute, 16 4/5 seconds to record his fourth victory in his past five races and his fifth in 14 tries this season.

Trained by Lou Bernier, the 4-year-old gelded son of Tank's Prospect out of the Stop The Music mare Carrie's Dream, has now won $135,152 in a 39-race career.

Also yesterday, jockey Larry Reynolds rode a pair of winners, boosting his victory total to 17 for the meet. He is 17 winners behind leader Luzzi.

Reynolds rode Jazema ($5.40) in the second and Brother Roberts ($5.80) in the sixth.
