What could be more relaxing after a harried work week than a serene cruise across a beautiful lake?

Leave the children with a baby sitter and come aboard Piney Run's pontoon at 6:30 p.m. Friday for dinner and a leisurely sail. The crew will don aprons and serve fried chicken and salads.

Reservations are requested. Cost is $6.50 per diner. The boat will leave the dock at 30 Martz Road, Eldersburg. Information: 795-3274.

Or, how about tea at 3 p.m. with Barbie and friends? Children are invited to bring their favorite Barbie dolls to a tea party on the lake. The crew serves refreshments and sponsors a fashion show of Barbie's best ensembles. $1 for the trip.

If you are in Sykesville Friday, stop by for the town's free Concerts in the Park series and enjoy "Friendly Fire." The music plays at 7 p.m. in Millard Cooper Park, Springfield Avenue. Information: 795-6390.

More sounds are at Cascade Lake on Snydersburg Road, Hampstead. Hear the Dixie Highway Band's country sounds from 8-11 p.m. Friday, $4. Information: 374-9111.

If you want to end your weekend on a musical note, lend an ear to the Derek Day Quartet and its exciting jazz sounds at 7 p.m. Sunday in Piney Run Park. You could take a one-day vacation Friday and join the Historical Society on a bus tour to Goschenhoppen Historian Folk Festival in Pennsylvania. The festival includes a continuous stage program, demonstrations, exhibits and lectures. Cost is $37 for members, $42 for non-members. Information: 848-6494.

Bargain hunters might want to head north out Route 97 Saturday. The Silver Run Improvement Association will have the annual Silver Run Days.
