HAMPSTEAD — Center has new owner
HAMPSTEAD -- The new owner of Roberts Field Shopping Center on Route 30 said he has three leases pending for vacant space at the center, including one that would be a secondary anchor store.
Roger L. Holland, president of Hostetter Construction Co. in Hanover, Pa., said yesterday he could not reveal the names of the stores.
The center, anchored by Weis Markets, is about 80 percent leased, he said. If the three prospective tenants move in, they will take "a substantial amount of the remaining space," he said.
The former owners of Roberts Field, McGill Development Ltd. of Columbia, filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code last July.
The division of the company that owned the shopping center listed $9.5 million in assets and $8.7 million in debts.
In late June, the case was resolved, and Mr. Holland -- as part of a limited partnership -- took ownership of the center.
The center now is owned by R. F. Associates L. P., whose partners are Holland Properties Inc. and Foxleigh-Northwoods L. MA Mr. Holland, owner of Holland Properties, was the general con
tractor for the 81,000-square-foot, $8 million center, which was completed in April 1991.
Foxleigh-Northwoods was one of McGill's secured creditors in the bankruptcy case. The Foxleigh Group of Lutherville sold McGill the shopping center property.
The bankruptcy case was resolved when the creditors voted to accept the plan submitted by the limited partnership, said Robert S. Glushakow, a Towson attorney who represented Hostetter Construction.
The limited partnership has paid $500,000 to be distributed among McGill's unsecured creditors, he said.
Mr. Holland said he assumed the secured debt, including Foxleigh's. Mr. Holland was owed about $500,000.
Mr. Holland said he also owns The Mark motel and restaurant in Hanover and some commercial property there. This is his only shopping center, he said.
Other Roberts Field tenants include hardware, liquor and video stores and a pizza shop.
Mall manager moves
WESTMINSTER -- Cranberry Mall manager David A. Cianelli has been transferred to Salisbury to be the general manager at the Centre at Salisbury, a mall with five anchor stores.
His replacement has not been named, Mr. Cianelli said yesterday.
Both malls are owned by Shearson Shopco Malls Limited Partnership, based in New York.
Mr. Cianelli, 30, was the manager at Cranberry Mall for 1 1/2 years. Before that, he managed Carrolltowne Mall in Eldersburg for nine months.
The Salisbury mall is about 357,000 square feet larger and has one more anchor store than Cranberry Mall, he said. The Eastern Shore mall is 94 percent leased, he added.
The Centre is anchored by Hecht's, J.C. Penney, Boscov's, Sears and Montgomery Ward.
Mr. Cianelli said he enjoyed his work at Cranberry Mall.
"It was really wonderful working with the community. I'm kind of sorry to have to part ways," he said.
Mayor to meet owners
WESTMINSTER -- Mayor W. Benjamin Brown will meet with city business owners and leaders at 9 a.m. Aug. 25 at the Comfort Inn to discuss how businesses here can better position themselves to compete in the future.
"Marketing Westminster: 1990s and Beyond" is the name given to the meeting, said Thomas B. Beyard, city planning and public works director.
The mayor wants to get business owners together to talk about marketing issues, he said.
Owners of downtown businesses and owners of businesses in shopping centers have been invited, Mr. Beyard said. WESTMINSTER -- The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce has sent the county's top 30 employers special invitations to the Business to Business Expo in October.
The expo is a good way for businesses to learn about other local businesses, said Lee M. Depot, a member of the committee working on the expo.
The Chamber also has invited the county commissioners to the event, said Mr. Depot, branch manager at First National Bank of Maryland at Routes 140 and 97.
The chamber is billing the annual business show as "an economic rally for the business community."
The expo will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 8 at Martin's Westminster. In addition to local business exhibits, several professionals are scheduled to speak.
Carolyn West Price, president of IMPACT Marketing and Public Relations Inc., will speak on "How to Get a Customer and Keep a Customer."
At lunch, WBAL sports announcer Vince Bagli will speak on "The Business of Sports."
In the afternoon, William Gavin, executive director of administration at Random House Inc., will speak on "How to be Your Own Personnel Manager."
A wine and cheese party for participants will be from 5 to 7 p.m.
The cost for a booth ranges from $175 to $345, and the showroom has space for 70 booths.
Watson Morgan, a resident of Finksburg, was promoted to the position of vice president of banking within the Bank of Baltimore last month.
