Glen Burnie numbers to change Some exchanges go from 787 to 508

July 26, 1992

Starting Monday, anyone wishing to telephone the district court and multi-service center in Glen Burnie will need to use a 508 telephone exchange instead of 787.

The new number is the result of the installation of a $14,000 centralized telephone system that will be provided by C & P Telephone.

Among the offices in the George M. Taylor District Court/Multi-Service Center affected will be the Anne Arundel District Court, the Department of Economic and Employment Development, the Department of General Services, the Department of Human Resources, the Department of Juvenile Services, the Division of Parole and Probation, the Officer of the Public Defender, the Division of Rehabilitation Services and the State's Attorney.

Dan Gladding, a telecommunications specialist with the dTC Department of General Services, said the last four digits of each existing telephone number will remain the same. Fax and modem numbers, however, will be changed.

Mr. Gladding said the new phone system will operate more efficiently because each agency will be billed directly for its calls and the system automatically will select the cheapest long-distance calling line. Callers also should get fewer busy signals, he added.

The multi-service center will inaugurate the 508 exchange, but it also may be used in the future by other state offices in Glenn Burnie, he said.
