WESTMINSTER -- The Carroll County Department of Social Services, housed in the Barrel House on Distillery Drive, will be closed Wednesday for electrical repairs.
However, the child abuse emergency number -- 848-8778 -- will remain in operation all day, said Alexander Jones, director of DSS.
Baltimore Gas and Electric representatives will be combining the individual electrical meters into one that services the entire building, said Peggy Mulloy, spokeswoman for the company.
"There's no problem, but we are shutting it off so they can do the job safely," she said. "They can work with the wires being active, but prefer to work de-energized. It's safer."
Locust House, an apartment complex for senior citizens, will also be without power that day because both buildings are on the same circuit.
"The BG & E representative was here [Wednesday] and there's not too much you can say," said Laurie Millender, an employee of Locust House. "We just wanted them to give us a week's notice, so we could notify the residents."
Those who are dependent on oxygen tanks have been advised to make other housing arrangements that day, Millender said.
?3 "Everyone has been real cooperative," she said.
