BY THE NUMBERS

July 22, 1992

This Baltimore supplier of equipment to control air pollution primarily blamed the loss in its first fiscal quarter on a $1.9 million cost overrun on the installation of pollution devices at an Illinois power plant.

Sales also were hurt by the poor economy and the slowness of utility companies to react to federal air-pollution regulations, the company said.

Contract bookings during the quarter were $8.8 million, down from $13.7 million in the same period a year ago. As a result, the company's backlog dropped from $75.2 million at the beginning of the quarter to $61.7 million.
