SHOWS

Friday-Sunday: Buck Fever, The Hunting Show at the Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship. Featured speaker is scheduled to be white-tail deer expert Dan Fitzgerald. Also, the Maryland trophy deer contest, bow hunters' contest, seminars and dealer displays. Call (410) 922-5549

Aug. 1-2: Call of the Wild benefit sportsmen's outdoors show at the Frederick Fairgrounds. More than 75 displays, demonstrations and hourly lectures by experts on conservation, fly-casting, decoy carving, hunting, fishing, rafting, etc. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 16 and under. Proceeds will benefit the Ronald MacDonald House, Hospice and the Frederick County Sheriff's Ranch. Shows opens at 9 a.m. each day.

Aug. 8-9: Bowhunter Jamboree and Maryland State 3D Championship at the 12th Precinct Pistol and Archery Club in Harwood, Anne Arundel County. Maryland State 3D championship will be held on Saturday, with grounds opening at 8 a.m. and registration closing at 9:30 a.m. Championship course will remain up on Sunday, with range opening at 8 a.m. On Sunday there also will be displays and demonstrations, bow tuning clinics, 3D and novelty shoots. FISHING

Tomorrow: Get Hooked on Fishing, Not Drugs, four-day fishing clinic and drug education program at Greenbrier State Park in Boonsboro and at Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone. Tuesday: Essex-Middle River Chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishermen's Association meets at Commodore Hall on Old Eastern Avenue in Essex, 7:30 p.m. Capt. Joe Mann will speak about a new concept in boat ownership for about $500 a year and present a slide show. Call (410) 825-5710.

July 28: Public hearing on proposed striped bass regulations for the 1992 fall season -- all of October, plus the first three weekends of November. The proposal is one fish per person per day (two per charter boat customer), size from 18 to 36 inches. Hearing is a 6 p.m., Department of Agriculture in Annapolis.

July 29: Monthly meeting of Maryland Fly Anglers at the Ridge Garden Apartments, Old Harford Road and Putty Hill Avenue, 7:30 p.m. Frederick outdoors writer Jim Guilford will speak about Hunting Creek trout fishery and Friends of Hunting Creek Improvement Program. Call (410) 825-2695.

Aug. 1-8: White Marlin Open at Ocean City, Harbour Island Marina. On-site registration Aug. 1-2. Mail-in registration available through Box 737, Ocean City, Md. 21842. Fishing days are Aug. 3-7. Aug. 1-2, 8-9: Kent Narrows Powerboat Challenge. Six classes of offshore racers Aug. 1-2 (Sunday is a rain date). Five classes of hydroplanes and two classes of runabouts Aug. 8-9. Racing begins at 12:30 p.m. Spectator boats available. Call (410) 643-1791.

4 Aug. 3-5: Yachting Race Week at Solomons Island.

Sept. 5-7: Mid-Atlantic Mini Multihull Race Weekend for boats with waterlines of 25 to 31 feet. Five races overall on Round Bay, Severn River. Call (301) 672-1607.
