3 unearned runs lift Mets over Suns, 4-2

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — BINGHAMTON, N.Y.-- The Binghamton Mets scored three unearned runs in the sixth inning yesterday to beat the Hagerstown Suns, 4-2, in the first game of a Double-A Eastern League doubleheader.

Hagerstown led 2-1 in the sixth, having scored in the third on Damon Buford's RBI triple and Mark Smith's RBI single.

Pete Walker (4-8) got the win for the first-place Mets (57-38). Loser Brian Wood (2-2) pitched two-thirds of an inning.

The second game was rained out. It will be made up as a part of a doubleheader today beginning at 6 p.m.
