Army Reserve Lt. Col. Arthur Reynolds, a Columbia attorney, was recently promoted to his present rank in the Judge Advocate Generals Corps. Colonel Reynolds is assigned to Fort Mead where he is handling personal injury claims against the Army.
Petty officer elevated
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class John Warfield Jr., son of Albert and Cynthia Kupres of Clarksville and Mike and Mary Warfield of Baltimore, was recently elevated to his current rank. A hospital corpsman, Petty Officer Warfield is stationed aboard the USS John F. Kennedy, an aircraft carrier home ported in Norfolk, Va.
The 1986 graduate of Lansdowne Senior High School enlisted in the Navy in August 1986.
VanSant completes basic
Navy Seaman Recruit Christopher M. VanSant, son of Michael R. VanSant of Mount Airy, has completed basic training at Great Lakes Recruit Training Command, Ill. Recruits are taught general military subjects designed to prepare them for further academic or on-the-job training.
Seaman VanSant also learned the basics of seamanship, close-order drill, naval history and first aid.
Petty officer graduates
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class James P. Adams, son of Lynn Clarke of Sykesville, has graduated from the Naval Academy Preparatory School, Newport, R.I. During the year-long course, students study a variety of subjects to prepare them for entry into the U.S. Naval Academy or the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
Petty Officer Adams is a 1988 graduate of Liberty High School in Eldersburg. He joined the Navy in September 1989.
Waskey completes basic
Navy Fireman Recruit Richard A. Waskey, son of Richard A. Waskey Sr. of Columbia recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla.
A 1991 graduate of Dunnellon High School, Dunnellon, Fla., Fireman Waskey joined the Navy in March 1992.
Kerner finishes course
Navy Seaman Recruit William G. Kerner, son of Maureen A. and George J. Kerner of Woodbine, has completed a course at Fort Devens, Mass. which taught him to operate international Morse code equipment.
Seaman Kerner is a 1991 graduate of South Carroll High School, Sykesville.
Wagner gets award
Air Force 1st Lt. Glenn A. Wagner, son of Charles and Joan Wagner of Columbia, is a member of the 3245 Test Wing, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., which has received the Daedalian Maintenance Award. The award honors the unit as the best aircraft maintenance unit in the Air Force for 1991.
Lieutenant Wagner is a 1980 graduate of Atholton High School and a 1988 graduate of Loyola College in Baltimore.
Soldier completes basic
Army Pvt. Jason A. Crook, son of Janet C. Ernest of Ellicott City, has completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. During training, students received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid, and Army history and traditions.
Private Crook is a 1990 graduate of Mount Hebron High School.
Johnson gets duty
Marine Pfc. Daniel J. Johnson, son of James A. and Debrah L. Johnson of Savage, has reported for duty at Marine Barracks, Naval Station, Annapolis.
A 1991 graduate of Hammond High School, Private Johnson joined the Marine Corps in November 1991.
Meyers completes basic
Navy Seaman Apprentice Thomas O. Meyers, son of Lois W. Hyman of Ellicott City, recently completed basic training at San Diego Recruit Training Command. Seaman Meyers will now receive training in one of the Navy's 85 occupational fields.
He is a 1989 graduate of Glenelg High School.
2 new Army officers
Two Howard County men were commissioned as Army second lieutenants after graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.
2nd Lt. Omar J. Jones IV, son of Omar J. and Carol H. Jones of Ellicott City, will serve with the Infantry at Fort Benning, Ga. Lieutenant Jones is a 1988 graduate of Glenelg High School.
2nd Lt. Joseph P. Lazzari, son of Gary A. and Judith A. Gordon of Highland, has been assigned to the Adjutant General Corps at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind. Lieutenant Lazzari is a 1988 graduate of Atholton High School.
Ensign Blow reports
Navy Ensign Trevor A. Blow, son of Philip W. and Cassandra A. Blow of Columbia, has reported for duty with Patrol Squadron-30 at Jacksonville Naval Air Station, Fla.
The 1986 graduate of Atholton High School joined the Navy in May 1990 after receiving a degree from the University of South Carolina.
2 new Air Force officers
The sons of two county residents were recently commissioned second lieutenants through the Air Force ROTC program.
2nd Lt. Robert C. Williams Jr., son of Bonnie S. Williams of Columbia and Robert C. Williams of Enon, Ohio, graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
2nd Lt. Richard R. Howe, son of Irmgard H. Howe of Ellicott City, earned his degree at Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, Va. Lieutenant Howe graduated from Centennial High School in 1988.
Corporal Trout promoted
Marine Cpl. William M. Trout, son of Edwin G. and Ann N. Trout of Ellicott City, was promoted to his present rank while serving with the 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
